After 10 minutes of experiencing Immigrant Nation, did you want to continue?

1. I was interested in the site; I’ve always been interested in heritage. I remained intrigued for at least ten minutes. Had I been on my own, I’m not sure I would have continued watching.

2. After 10 minutes, I definitely wanted to continue exploring the site because there were so many different options for me to choose, but it wasn’t overwhelming. There were many different ways to search for more stories and see how they overlapped, and this immediately drew me in and made me want to keep seeing these connections until I reached the end.

3. Honestly, no, I would not like to continue. Although the stories are interesting and diverse, they lack the details needed to create an emotional connection to the people and/or their experiences.

4. After being on the site for ten minutes I did want to continue. I was intrigued by the stories that I found and wanted to learn more about the people.

5. In the beginning though, I did not want to continue because I thought there were only the six stories that the site initially displayed. Once I found that you could search for stories I became more interested.

6. I did not. I was bored with the brevity of the stories and disinterested because they were too brief to be engaging.

7. Not really. Some of the same old stories I’ve heard before. Also the comments people made on each story were just insensitive and immature. I don’t think a truly interactive site where everyone can contribute is really feasible because you always get jerks like them writing stupid, offensive comments.

8. I did not want to continue. I was just reading really short stories that lacked much detail and the purpose of the site to show how these stories are connected wasn’t coming across to me.

9. No not really. It wasn’t that the stories themselves were bad, just that I already had the general idea of the interactive site and wasn’t interested in finding out more. I like that the viewer has the option to explore as long as they want to, but I don’t think I would spend more than ten minutes perusing the site honestly.

10. Yes, after 10 minutes of experiencing the site I wanted to continue. I thought that it was interesting to see the different stories intertwine with one another. There are so many stories that it can take a while to get through them, even though there are only two slides.

11. Not particularly, I couldn’t figure out how to navigate the site. I kept getting stuck on the same page for every story where it says I can share the story on social media or select a tag to view related stories. It was also frustrating that the stories weren’t in depth at all-they were a quote or a single block of text. I thought it would be much more complex and I was interested since it was about immigration, but this was disappointing.

12. No. Im now at the 24 minute mark and I’m very tired of this website.

13. Yes. There are a lot of stories to read, and they all talk about different experiences. They were very interesting, especially the videos.

14. Eeeeh.. Not really. It was interesting but not something I would spend a lot of time on. Once I found the Immigrant Films I was more interested.

15. No. I have no interest in exploring it further, too much work.

16. No I was very bored. There was not much interaction. It was mostly just reading stories and commenting on them.

17. Not particularly, all stories seemed to be very similar and there was little variation in the format. Even the questions at the end of the story seemed as though they were prewritten by the authors of the website and just pasted on as an afterthought.

18. No, after ten minutes it became fairly obvious that the site did not have vey much content, nor was the content varied. Most of the stories were extremely similar, and or lacked the detail to making it worth viewing. There are a couple of short films, thee were the best aspects of the site, and coincidentally they were the least “interactive”. Overall, the stories didn’t share anything new; they are retellings of the prototypical stories one hears about immigration either from schools, TV, or stories told by relatives.

19. No, because all the stories seemed approximately the same and sometimes I couldn’t even find new ones through the tags.

20. This is one of those projects that you could go through forever. Because in stating the story of each of us, they are showing us the story of all of us. Of where we came from and who we are and where we have been.

21. No, the site interested me in the topic but I didn’t want to keep spending my time on it. I would have seen a feature about it or a 60 minutes special, but the site would be something I would have enjoyed more after watching a program on a particular immigrant and his/her experience or a feature.

22. After ten minutes, I must admit I was getting rather bored. However, once I found the videos, I wanted to stay on the site. They helped tell the story in a way that pictures and text could not- I could here people’s voices. The simple pictures with captions became repetitive.

23. Not really, after the first few stories I had read I felt like I had seen everything the site had to offer. This may be because the site was too new. There were very few comments, links, and stories in general. Many of the countries only had one or less stories in the tags I searched, and this made me feel like there was no choice in what I was reading. It wasn’t until I found tags that had multiple stories from multiple countries that I got interested.

24. Yes I did. Once it became clear how to navigate the site and how I was able to click on several different stories after visiting just one was awesome. It’s a great concept but the layout could be more interactive. By having so many stories and tags you could go through it became very long. I would’ve also liked to see more videos instead of simply reading about people’s stories.

25. After 10 minutes, it got extremely repetitive, which made it boring and made me not want to continue.

26. I honestly got bored of reading just two paragraphs of peoples’ stories. They seemed too vague and I did not like the limited amount of stories that I could choose from.

27. At first, no, because I was just reading stories and I felt like they were too short to have much of an effect on me. I then saw one of the films, however, and I wanted to keep watching at that point.

28. In the first 10 minutes I watched the two videos, so no I had no real incentive to stay on the site. Not that reading is bad, obviously, but I was hoping more for videos rather than just pages of text. Past personal preference, the stories come off better when helped by visuals or narrated.

29. The site was somewhat confusing to navigate, as most stories were only just pictures and text. Even with video, I didn’t feel a very connected sense of interactivity.

30. Yes. There is so much to do and learn, and the interactive factors of the site are so interesting that I would probably continue with the site. That is, if I held more of a fascination for this topic, which I don’t really. Still, it was a very interesting experience.

31. I got involved early on but found it tough to stay involved because I had to keep clicking back or to the home page to pick another story. The music helps to create a mood but continuously and abruptly cuts out every time the story switches to a new focus.

32. The layout of the site was not as clear as it could have been it took me a while to find thing and to navigate around. There was no clear single narrative on the site, I think the goal was to tell a multitude of stories but with that goal there is a risk of desensitizing the audience. After the 3rd or 4th story I read I started to feel like they were very repetitive, and that was a feeling that didn’t dissipate after 10 minutes

33. I was beginning to lose interest by just looking at images and graphs but once I found the videos that helped reengage me.

34. Not particularly because the written stories didn’t hold my attention. But then I found the videos and I really enjoyed those. I like how they combined video and the question page that the previous stories had.

35. No, I did not. I was looking for a more overarching story, not just a place where people can record their own stories. Listening about other people’s lives is fine, but I wouldn’t really label this as an interactive media piece but rather an interactive archive.

36. If I’m being completely honest, not particularly. Not because the subject matter was boring, but the way it was set up felt less like a documentary and more like a website with profiles for people to post about their lives. I felt like I was reading more than viewing a documentary, which made me check out a lot of the time.

37. No. I felt I understood enough of it after five minutes of reading and clicking through and found nothing of interest and not very many stories to choose from. It felt very scarce and I felt like I had seen enough of it very quickly.
